Broadway Sizzle & Operatic Passion (Matinee)

Broadway Sizzle & Operatic Passion (Matinee)

Maria Aleida, soprano, Carlos de Antonis, tenor and Franc D'Ambrosio, tenor

Sunday, February 18 @ 2:00 pm Tuesday, & February 20 @ 7:45pm – Presenting an eclectic musical program ranging from opera classics such as Puccini’s “Nessun Dorma” to contemporary Broadway including much-loved music from Phantom of the Opera, Symphony of the America’s Broadway Sizzle & Operatic Passion brings powerhouse vocal talent to South Florida audiences!

Cuban born Soprano Maria Aleida often performs on tour with Andrea Boccelli throughout the world.  A graduate of the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, she is a top prize winner at the Montserrat Caballe International Voice Competition, Francisco Vinas Competition in Barcelona, the Licia Albanese Puccini Foundation Competition, and Metropolitan Opera Auditions.  Maria Aleida has collaborated with soprano Mirella Freni and Montserrat Caballe and as a soloist with La Sinfonica de Venezuela at the Teresa Carreño Theatre.  European soloist appearances include Rossini Opera Festival de Pesaro.

Argentinean-Italian tenor Carlos de Antonis, perhaps best known as a winner in the network TV show “America’s Got Talent” (and ranked by the judges as “the most likeable contestant ever”), began his vocal career 28 years ago as a soloist in musical theater.  Making his opera debut at age 25, he is considered one of the finest tenors of his generation.  In 1993, he was the first Quasimodo in the world, performing the lead role in The Hunchback of Notre Dame.  Other lead roles have included La Traviata, Il Barbiere di Sevilla and Rigoletto in Milan, Italy.  Mr. De Antonis brings the same passion and energy into his live concert performances; his solo recital one-man show, “Who said that Opera is Boring?” was reviewed as a “truly unforgettable evening,” with his voice described as “an attractive, ardent and supple instrument that he wielded to passionate effect.”

Franc D'Ambrosio is known as the “World’s Longest Running Phantom,” a title he held for a decade with over 2,300 performances of the lead role in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Tony Award-winning musical, Phantom of the Opera.  Currently celebrating 13 years of continuous touring, he has joined the ranks of Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman as only a handful of Phantom alumni to successfully crossover to solo careers.  D’Ambrosio’s resume also includes an Academy Award-nominated film, an Emmy Award-nominated television show, a four-time Tony-nominated Broadway show, two Grammy considerations, and a National Theatre Award nomination.

This unforgettable evening will include classics from Puccini, Verdi, Strauss and others, plus favorite show stoppers by modern composers Andrew Lloyd Webber and Leonard Bernstein just to name a few.  Selections include “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes,” “What Kind of Fool Am I,” “Les oiseaux dans la charmille” (Offenbach’s The Tales of Hoffman), and Phantom of the Opera medley.

Pre-concert informational talk 30 minutes prior to the performance with Patrick Casali, Musicologist.
